Walking; just as mentally demanding as driving.

So I was walking on campus today, paying attention and dodging around the people not walking to the right, like you were taught to do in kindergarten; that is unless you live in a country where the left hand side is the correct side. As i stepped around a large group of people standing in such a way that they blocked off half of the rather wide walkway someone smashed into me.

As i lay dazed wondering what had hit me someone stood over me asking why i had run into them. Before i even had time to articulate a response they again insisted it was my fault again and stormed off…their face glued to their phone!

This isn’t the first time I’ve been run over by someone texting or messenging whilst they walk. Now I’ve been known to check a text when i stop on the corner and wait for the light, because i happen to respect the speeding bullets that live in the street, but I will not attempt to respond as i step off the curb and onto the tarmac.

I’ve noticed it more and more as each new class comes in and it makes me terrified that these are the people who will be doctors and such in a few years. It also makes me terrified that this seems to be the prevailing trend; or it sure feels that way. I know it’s just the obvious that is observed; for every one offender there are three non-offensive persons. Usually.

If your a walking texter, or a victim of walking texting drop a comment. I’d love to hear from you.

  1. I have to admit that I am a walking texter, but I have also been a victim of walking texters. I do try to pay attention to my surroundings while I am texting though. Have you even fallen victim to the large gaggle of teenage girls that walk in a line across the walk way? You know, like so you have to either get pushed off the curb/into a wall, or try to stand your ground and squeeze by them while they glare and make a snide comment. I think these people are just as bad.

    • Yeah had that happen; though I’ve had worse. Imagine that line just stopping once they get up on the curb and you cant get around them because of traffic and parked cars><
